How To Get The Best Beach Photos

Summer is in full swing and as many of us head to the beach we all want to get those "insta-worthy" snapshots.

As Dushi Designs is an island-inspired apparel brand we know all about how to get those kind of shots!

Here we share with you some of our best tips and tricks we have learned along the way over the last five years of photographing the Dushi family to showcase our beach themed merchandise.

1. THE CANDID SHOT

Do you ever stand there in front of the camera and wonder what to do? Do you want to capture a "natural" pose but don't quite know what to do with your hands or where to look? Do you feel uncomfortable and think everyone is watching you?

If you answered "YES" then my first piece of advice is to just simply have FUN!

When you are truly relaxed and enjoying whatever it is you are doing, those are the shots that really capture the candid moments. In my experience, those few seconds AFTER you have "posed" are the shots I like the best because you are totally relaxed and not overthinking about your stance or position or who's looking at you etc.

2. THE PALM TREE PROP

If you are at the beach then chances are there may be a palm tree or two... If there is, lucky you, because they make a great prop!

You can casually lean against it, peek through one of the palm fronds, take advantage of the shadow on the sand... Or go that little bit EXTRA, live out that island girl fantasy and use one of the leaves like this...

3. THE HOLD POSE

Those fidgety hands can be a pain in the butt can't they?! Where should I put them? What should I do with them?

If these are some of the questions you ask when taking photos then don't worry, you're not alone!

So many people, even models, don't always know what to do with their hands, so here's a quick trick to combat this... Hold something!

So simple, yet so effective.

Here's some of our favourite things to hold that you will probably have access to whilst at the beach; a sun hat, coconut, sea shell, phone, your sunglasses.

Check out some example shots of how we do the "hold" pose:

4. THE PINEAPPLE PROP

Y'all know how much I love a fresh juicy pineapple to make an appearance in my photo shoots! To me they scream "tropical vibes" and of course you can always eat them after the shoot is over. It's a win win right?!

Wear that pineapple like a crown, throw it up in the air and catch it, sit next to it on the sand... The possibilities are endless. Just get that pineapple in the shot and an you've instantly given your beach shot some island style!

5. THE HAIR TOUCH

It's a classic pose that you will have seen sooooo many models and influencers do.

It is super easy and any one can do it. Even if you don't have much hair or short hair, a simple face touch works just as good.

Pretend to tuck your hair behind your ear, brush your hair off your neck, gently hold the ends of your hair, sweep your hair off your face or whip it to one side. Whatever "hair touch" you choose, do it with confidence and werk it!
