Summer is in full bloom, vacation season is happening, garden parties and BBQ's, weddings and lots of sunshine. With all the excitement this season brings, your self-care routine might take a back seat... So here's a quick list of easy tips to stay on top of your self-care game this summer.
1. Stay hydrated 💦
So simple, but so easily overlooked. Water is the ultimate purifier and replenisher. Take a refillable water bottle out with you so you can keep sipping on the go. Try adding some fresh fruits to your water, not only to add minerals and increase the nutritional benefits, but to make it taste extra refreshing.
Lemons – a natural detoxifier and aids with bloating and fluid retention
Cucumber – help cool the inflammatory response in body. Hydrates body, reduces puffiness and bloating, and flushes toxins.
Mint – soothes the stomach and reduces inflammation
Watermelon – high in lycopene and antioxidants
Lime – helps with digestion and natural detoxifier
Basil – anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits
Strawberries – high in antioxidants and boost immunity
Cantaloupe – great skin and hair benefits
Pineapple – has digestive enzymes that aid in digestion
Blueberries – the healthiest fruit on the planet, high in antioxidants
Peaches – high vitamin C content is beneficial for the skin
Oranges – high in Vitamin C and helps to alkalize the body
2. Always wear sunscreen ☀️
Lay it on thick and slather yourself in the stuff. Your skin will thank you later (promise). By now most people will know that sunscreen protects your skin from the harmful UV rays, prevents premature aging and sunburn and most importantly lowers skin cancer risks.
3. Unplug 🔌
Switch off your devices and have a social media free day/week. Then you can be social in real life and enjoy being in the moment.
4. Go outside 🌱
Whether it’s on the beach, in the countryside, in the mountains or even your back yard. Get outside and breathe in that fresh clean air.
5. Turn it up 🎶
Get that summer playlist on the go and crank the volume up. When we listen to joyful, happy music, our brains usually produce chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine, which make us feel happy. Songs conjure up all kinds of emotions and offer a mix of nostalgia and escapism. Here's a peek at my summer playlist that is guaranteed to give me those much longed for summer vibes:

6. Try something new 🎨
Take a step out of your comfort zone… Sign up for a language or art class, salsa dancing, culinary school, a photography course or learn to surf! Try something that you’ve never done before. Even if this new “thing” doesn’t work out, at least you can say you tried it. Better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all.
7. Volunteer ❤️
Do something worthwhile this summer to really make a positive impact on our planet and/or your local community. It’s your future after all. Making a change can be big or small. So sign up to save the turtles, join the clean up crew on the beach, or cut out single use plastics by investing in a stainless steel straw for yourself. Doing something is always better than doing nothing. Plus volunteering has been proven to counteract the effects of stress, increase self-confidence, combat depression and provide a sense of purpose.
