This last week I have spent every single day crying my eyes out.
So many emotions and thoughts and feelings have been swirling around my mind.
I am angry, sad, heart broken and enraged.
Why is this still happening in 2020?
WE NEED CHANGE. RIGHT NOW.
You might be reading this thinking that this is not your problem, not your battle to fight, you don't have anything relevant to say or you don't know how you can make a difference.
That is part of the problem.
We ALL can do SOMETHING to make a DIFFERENCE.
You probably woke up today, looked on your phone and was faced with a screen full of black squares.
I urge you to stand in solidarity, no matter what colour your skin is, and be part of this movement. A movement which I really wish didn't need to happen but the reality is this is long overdue!
Many non-Black influencers are muting on social media to clear the platform and allow important voices to be heard.
Now is NOT the time to be sharing "booty pics", selling "teeth whitening" products, promoting the latest "how to drop a dress size in a day" fad diet or showing people what you ate for breakfast!
Now IS the time to use your voice for the greater good of helping spread the message that #BlackLivesMatter
We cannot continue to let history repeat itself. Our future generations depend on us to make a change.
The whole world watched a Black man be murdered by a white police officer in broad daylight. We all heard George Floyd say, "I can't breathe" and cry for his Mama.
If you are one of those people who said, "I can't bare to watch that video, I will find it too upsetting".... You NEED to watch it!
Yes, it is uncomfortable. Yes, it is distressing. Yes, it is heartbreaking. Yes, it is disturbing.
But you need to feel all of those feelings and channel them in to fighting for justice.
Justice for George Floyd. Justice for all Black lives lost at the hands of racist murderers who wear a uniform and badge to shield them from any kind of consequences.
Is this the world we want to live in?
Is this to world we want our children to grow up in?
Is this the world we want our grandchildren to be born in to?
The answer is NO!
HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
Start a conversation with your Black friends and PoC and listen to their personal stories to gain a deeper understanding of the pain and suffering they endure on a daily basis.
Fund the movement.
Black Out Tuesday.
Join me and millions of others around the world by posting a black square on your timeline with the hashtag #BlackOutTuesday and refrain from posting your own content, unless it is related to the movement, for the next week to allow this important message to take over social media and flood the platforms making sure it is seen and heard by everyone.
Please do NOT use the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on this black image post because when you do, people will click the hashtag and all they will see is blacked out images instead of the content that shows the protests and important information and updates by activists around the world.
WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
PLEASE WATCH, TURN UP THE VOLUME AND SHARE:
Sending you all peace, love and dushi vibes.
